While I cannot comment on Shredder's playing strength, I have had serious problems using the program. For example, it comes as part of the Millenium package solde by ICD with Ken Thompson's endgame CDs. Using the latter with Shredder is supposed to be one of the selling points of Shredder. But when I try to set up a position to analyze in Shredder by using the File/Edit position choice, after setting up a position and clicking OK, Shredder always hangs. So one cannot use the endgame CDs. In view of the absence of tech support from the Shredder creator, this program is of questionable use. It may be the strongest program in the world, but if we cannot get support on how to use it, then what good is it?
