When I started playing in tounaments myself, many years ago, I considered
insulting that weaker players didn't resing in clearly lost positions, but as
time went by, and my experienced increased (I lost or draw many won positions) I
realized it's up to the players to resing at some point or forcing the opponent
to checkmate. I don't think there's an insult in playing until checkmate, it's a
right of the players according to chess rules and, when you sit down to play a
game, you know the opponent (and you, indeed) have that right.
IMHO, following the rules should never be considered as an insult.
