(any help is welcome :-) I'm not quite sure what you meant. Do you mean that you search everything to certain depth, and deeper than that depth you only search captures? Do you search as long as captures can be found? Perhaps you could have some maximum depth for them. (E.g. Search all moves to depth N and captures to depth 2*N.) Or if either side has lost much more valuable pieces, cut the search earlier in such case. I'm not sure, if I understood anything at all, but you said _any_ help is welcome. :-) Jari
