I have had better results, but it was a pain to get going the first time. One thing that seems to help is to NOT profile all functions--I focus on the big time users, not all the ancillary routines--and "only" 72 times slower sounds quick to me :) It has to run long enough to get into cache, fill hash, and into the "body" of the search. Also, no stdin/out problems...
