>is a bad player, Karpov is a bad player against computers! Yes. That's what you're saying! Now I understand. You said, "sucks", that means being a failure at playing computers. I don't know, the games he played weren't directly anti-computer style. But to suggest he's a complete failure, is a bit too harsh, Because it needs either great positional and tactical capabilities - which Karpov definitely has - or strong knowledge of chess computer programs, and the corresponding anti-play to exploit their weaknesses -which Karpov doesn't have- we can generally conclude that Karpov has insufficient insight in computer programs and play. If we compare the "computer" results of some 2700+ grandmasters, including Karpov himself, his results are meager if not to say "bad". Then we'll arrive at the endless discussion (for some, not all, not me) if you really miss something by not using computers, game databases, tactical computer analysis. I think Karpov misses something, and it's especially sad because he is and was such a strong player. Jeroen ;-}
