Dear Rich:
You will like the Benko Gambit. I've played it for years, and it has the
following advantages:
1] If both sides are out of the book early, Black has good chances to play
for a win.
2] There are many good natural combinations for Black, but few for White.
3] Once you get a feel for the ideas of the Benko, you can play if quickly
and correctly most of the time.
4] A strong positional player will beat you most of the time without
allowing you any tactical chances(USCF 2200 and up), but anyone else can be
chopped up with tactics.
I am a USCF expert in over-the-borad play, and this opening has never
failed me.
