This sounds like a smokescreen argument to me.

If you said in a court of law "My lawyer sucks as an attorney, I want a new
lawyer.", there is probably a good chance that you would minimally get a warning
from the judge if not a contempt of court citation. If you said "My lawyer
stinks as an attorney, I want a new lawyer.", the chances of this lessen and if
you said "My lawyer is not a very good attorney, I want a new lawyer.", chances
are the judge would not bat an eye (depending on the judge).

The reason for this is that certain language is not considered appropriate in
certain environments (do you use a derogatory form of the word sucks at
church?). This is a moderated forum. The idea is to be generally polite here,
not to use street language in an attempt to gain responses.

Although people have different backgrounds, it is only common sense that when
people use phrases like this in a title or within the content of a post, they
are attempting to generate heated discussions (i.e. they are trying to troll).

This is fairly obvious and the different backgrounds idea sounds like a
defensive side argument of the real issue to me. If someone told me that I suck
at anything (regardless of my actual ability), they would have to be a close
friend for me to not feel insulted. From a total stranger (say that Karpov
actually reads posts here), I would consider it to be insulting.
