Several times I have read posts that ask a chess question as opposed to a computer chess question, and subsequently saw people jump all over them because it was not a "computer chess question." OK, I agree this Board should be for computer chess, but where does one go to post questions about chess or tournament play? I have never seen a refernence to a chess or tournament message board. The utility of the CCC board is obvious, and I read it every day like normal people read the news papers. Yet, I am bothered by the reletivly large number of posts that read "I just got Monster 666, and boy is it strong! Much stronger than Demon 999." A reading of the post reveals that a simple match was played and the person counted the score and is reporting it here. I get the further impression that these people are not doing this to discover the truth about a program, but rather they just like watching one program play against another, like some people watch a tank of tropical fish. The level of chess skill could be Class D or lower. When Computer Chess Reports was being published, there were strong players (IM) reporting on chess programs and giving me insights that only strong players can give. I miss CCR and feel that CCC is a three class step down for serious chess players wanting really informative information about chess programs.
