When we put the Computer Chess Reports on the Internet and attempted
to charge for it, we were "yelled at" by many who thought that everything
on the web should be free. Well, we gave in and put it up for free.

Then the prices of software came down to 1/3 of what they had been.
There was, and is, not enough profit margin in chess software
to support a CCR, and I really doubt that there are enough people
willing to pay $25 or more a year for the privilege.

The CCC has also negated much of the need for a CCR because here
gratification is immediate.
