Hi,
you are correct, unchecking the tablebase button in the engine menu seems not
work. I've tested it with deep Junior and Fritz6. To make it work, please modify
your ChssBase.ini file in the Windows directory. There you can put semicolons in
front of the items referring to your tablebase directory. Have a look at my
ChssBase.ini example:

;[Tablebase]
;Path=f:\ChessBase\TableBases
;CacheSizeKB=4096
[Hiarcs 7.32]
Path=e:\ChessBase\Hiarcs732
[Deep Junior]
Path=e:\ChessBase\Deep Junior
.....

If you need tablebase access again, you will have to delete the semicolons.
Really a troublesome procedure, however, it worked for me.
