Hi Rima, I think CM 7K is from a nice serie with a very strong engine by Johan de Koning. (a fellow Dutchman, so that can't be wrong :)) It is really a bargain for such a strong program. Just after the release there was heavy discussion over the value of the program because people here couldn't get it to run. That was bad, but after all the patch came relatively quick. It seemed from the start CM Tech Support may have displayed a few glitches too many, but on the whole there is adequate support. IMO however after working with a few other programs I don't like the interface that much anymore. It's too baroque, and too much a matter of taste. Mind you - I had CM 2100, CM4000 CM5000 and CM6000, but after that I stopped. The more "businesslike" interface approach of others attracted me more, together with better analysis features. I chose for more specialized database and playing programs. There are a few on the market. We have Chess Assistant and ChessBase for database among with excellent freeware programs like CDB, and like Fritz, Junior, Hiarcs, Rebel, Rebel Tiger as very strong playing programs. ChessMaster is no doubt still among them. There is a computer rating list from the Swedish organization SSDF which rated CM6K (with the same engine as CM7K) very high. Personally I love the playing style of Rebel more; I own both Rebel 10 and Rebel Century. I haven't had that much experience with the new Rebel Tiger I recently received, but Rebel 10 and Century are very nice to tweak and play against. Well, there's a thread going on about that here at CCC. On the whole Chessmaster is a complete program with both database and playing/training capabilities for a smash price. Don't let the supposed "ratings" of the personalities mislead you to compare strenght with. You'll only get a real rating playing people. :) Good luck with CM, happy birthday and mucho fun at CCC.
