I have one of those, as I play so many games daily it is almost impossible to count. 2. Reliable hardware. None of this overclocked nonsense that hangs at a critical point. 3. A little luck on opening book moves to help you avoid playing a line that is simply busted from the get-go. 4. A _lot_ of luck throughout the tournament. Sometimes two moves look nearly equal, yet one loses and one wins. If Kaissa smiles down on you, you can do well. If Kaissa frowns at you, you can have the strongest program in the event and still not do particularly well (IE Ferret, which was clearly the best there, but it had a horrible tournament overall). Travel to Europe is expensive. The ICCA said "author must be there." I couldn't go because of (a) cost and (b) missing almost 2 weeks of classes in a 9-week compressed quarter here. They later allowed non-authors to enter, but didn't tell me, so I didn't continue with plans to find an operator (I already had a 16 cpu alpha lined up to use and had tested on it.) There is always the next WCCC or WMCCC maybe...
