As a beta tester I like to share a little info on Chess Genius for the Palm.

It's based on the Roma code and as such the estimated strength is ~2040 ELO to
~2060 ELO (more if overclocked). The most amazing thing for me is the
useability. The Palm platform is IMO the best best platform to PLAY chess. I
have loads of chess programs (all of which I enjoy) but the portability of the
Palm means that I am playing more chess while travelling. The screen is clear,
there are no pieces to knock over and now the program plays a strong game. I
have done some tests - Genius beats PocketChess quite easily - even the 1 sec /
move level regularlly beats PocketChess on level 4. Richard Lang has managed to
use the screen extremely well. There are three board views 1) info screen 2)
Large board 3) Giant Board. The info screen shows evaluation, search depth and
PV, the Large board only shows the last move and clock and the Giant Board fills
the whole screen.

One thing you all may be interested in is that there may be two versions - the
shareware version and a serious user version. The serious user version will
have additional features eg permenant brain, 2 player analysis, bigger book etc.

So all you folks who frequently find yourself on the move I would wholeheartedly
recommend the Palm and Palm Chess Genius as the best way of using the time well.

Regards

Steve Maughan
