Go up one level in this thread

I did some book preparation for the tournament - as a former serious over the
board player that sort of thing is second nature to me.

The first player I worried about was Hossa. Hossa plays alot of games vs
LambChop on ICC which can be a problem considering the following:
- LambChop's book is small because it is completely manually built
- Hossa's book is totally learnt, so it has a way of learning the opponents
book.

I had noticed that Hossa had been winning a good number of games vs LambChop
recently so I went through some of those and patched a few parts of my book. Of
course, LambChop never got to play Hossa in the tournament :-)

Another opponent I did preparation was Diep - I simply added a couple of replies
to 1.d4 d5 2.a3 although Vincent probably wouldn't have gone for that line vs
LambChop.

I was paired white vs Ferret for round 5 (this was later changed) so I had
plenty of time to prepare. I had a look at some Ferret games using the ICC
search command, and ended up a few moves to my book in main lines like Ruy Lopez
etc. I still expected Ferret to outbook me though :-) I did notice a big hole
in Ferret's book that would give LambChop a decent chance of getting a won game,
but it was in a line that LambChop doesn't play and it didn't seem worthwhile
going for it.

I was also fixing my book after each round...

This tournament finally convinced me to write a book builder, which I am in the
process of doing right now. I'll post something about it in a few days.

cheers,
Peter
