Why do you believe that Chessmaster was well behind the others in strength.  I
believe quite the opposite -- that it is and has been one of the very strongest
programs.

I also despise the CM5500 interface (one of the few commercial chess programs I
bought).  But its strength is very, very high.  The SSDF list confirms that as
well.
