Unfortunately, it's pretty tough to find an all-in-one
source, but there are resources out there.

First, check the resource center on this site.
Also, check http://members.xoom.com/jswaff/chessprg. :-)

There are some books out there, but they may be tough
to find.  A good one is "How COmputers Play Chess"
by Levy and Newborn.

Ernst Heinz just published a book, but I don't think
it's too basic (can't wait to get my hands on that one).

You can look at the numerous source code distributions
available, like Crafty, Arasan, EXchess, TSCP.  (TSCP
is Tom's Simple Chess Program).  Most should be listed
in the resource center.
