Dear Bruce,
    Place Pieces means making an imaginary setup of a chess board.
    You see these puzzles (some are impractical) that say (mate in 2) or (mate
in 3), etc.
    I don't understand the word "repititions" because castling and en passant
are largely "privileges".
    The computer software can pick up an "imaginary setup" and sort out which
questions to ask not only on legal moves, but also "ambiguous possibilities".
These "ambiguous possibilities" could very well add up from zero to eleven
additional questions.
    Does this answer your question?
    (I won 2nd place on my very first tournament at age 10.  I am now 30 years
old.)
