AMD is _not_ considered a serious competitor for Intel chips. Look at the volume. Look at the demand. Like it or not, the world has settled on Intel, just like it settled on IBM in the 1960's when Univac fiddled away the lion's share of the mainframe market. I just passed thru comp-USA this week buying some disk drives. I found 2 AMD-based machines (one notebook, one short tower) out of several dozen on display. I don't claim that AMD is 'bad'. But they definitely aren't in demand anywhere near comparable to Intel. Then why the demand for Intel if "everybody knows...". supply and demand economics usually show what everyone considers to be superior. Based on that, it is Intel by a landslide. No I don't like any part of the Intel architecture. Motorola was 100 times better from an assembly programming point of view.
