I think L2 cache size makes a big difference for HIARCS. Evidently HIARCS is
significantly faster on a G4 than it is on a PC processor. I think the only way
to explain this adequately is that the G4 has a 1MB L2 cache, which is at least
twice as much as your average PC processor.

A processor's integer core performance will affect every chess program, but to
varying degrees. Example: if you double the speed of the processor's integer
core, it will probably run Fritz twice as fast, but HIARCS maybe 1.5 times as
fast.
