Subject: Windows & Linux using the same tablebases

I'm expecting to add Linux to one of the partitions in my new HD. I'm also
expecting to have a 2Gb partition for tablebases (a luxury to me). What I'm
expecting to do is to format the tablebase partition with Dos' format, might not
even put them in a directory, the tablebasas could just go in the root directory
for all I care.

Will there be any reason why Chess programs in Linux _won't_ be able to use
those tablebases when they're on a Dos formated drive? My guess is that it
_won't_ effect anything, because they're on Linux when I download them, and they
work ok in Windows and Dos. Is there something that I'm misunderstandings here?

Also, is there an easy way that I can rename a large block of tablebases, so
that I could also use them with Dos Comet? For example; "kbkp.nbw.emd" needs to
be renamed "kbkpnbw.emd" (that one "dot" needs to be removed) in order for me to
use them with Dos Comet, but even though this _almost_ seems like the sort of
thing that would be right up Dos' alley, that extra "dot" is something that just
gives the old 16bit Dos commands a case of brain freeze.

Would that have to be a job of renaming them one at a time?

Thanks.

Pete
