For mine, buy the fastest 21264 (Alpha) machine you can afford.  To go faster,
buy one with more than one CPU.

If you mean "X86-compatible only" then the fastest Intel processor is the best,
and more than one cpu is even better.  In the intel world, the best (so far) is
the XEON processor, as it can be had in an 8-cpu box that is _really_ fast. (and
really pricey too of course).
