Subject: Why do Grandmaster's fear the computer so?

This latest fiasco at Club Kasparov is another indicator of just how lacking in
the area of testicular fortitude many GM's have when it comes to playing Comps.
I really don't understand this. Unlike many here I largely agree with Dr. Hyatt
that at 40/2 GM's have the edge against current programs/hardware. Those of us
who have watched the evolution of chess programming through the years well know
the weaknesses of computer chess play. And yet many of the GM's who are on top
of the chess world seem to fear playing them. Obviously the Club/Kasparov
matches were 60/0 which in my view favor comps. I beleive DJ had a very good
chance to win the tournament. But the question remains why do they lack the
intestinal fortitude to play? Perhaps Kasparov's loss to Deep
Blue has infected the GM community at large with a computer virus called
egoviralaticus?
