This is a great shame, and does nothing for chess. I was rooting for Adams before this match. I have nothing against Junior, or programs in general, but I do like to see humans postponing the inevitable a little longer. Now, though, I have lost sympathy with this one human GM, although I would still like to read his version of events. There's no point, though, in complaining about poor sportsmanship, as some people are doing, if Adams' insistence on a forfeit was in accordance with the rules of the contest. Does anyone know where the special rules for this event were published, if anywhere? I couldn't find them on the Kasparov site, but I was having trouble getting on to some of the pages there. Anyway, it is more to the point to set up the rules of important Internet contests so that lag won't lead to forfeits in the future. And, of course, it helps to be absolutely sure that timeseal or an equivalent is up and running. The people in this thread who are accusing Kasparov of somehow instigating this, should wait until they have some hard evidence. Their disappointment is understandable, but this kind of speculation is unfair to a great champion. Marc Plum
