Subject: some thoughts on junior 6a: an unbiased report from yahoo

It my be folly to go against the "junior is great" bandwagon, but after more
then 200 games played by several friends who have purchased and used junior 6a
in yahoo's advanced lounges, the concensus among the users (such as yours truly)
is that junior 6a is overrated; its good, but not great.

Generally speaking, most of the players who have purchased junior are in a foul
mood indeed. Junior6a's style is quiet, bordering on the irrelevent. Indeed,
fritz6a seems to be superior. My observations, as well as that of the others
who use programs in yahoo, is that for games from 10 to 15 minutes per side ,
chess tiger and fritz 6a are clearly the best, with chessmaster 7000 and
shredder 4 posting impressive results. For blitz games, 5 minutes or less per
side, hiarcs 732 as well as chessmaster 6000. for games over 25 minutes per
side, Nimzo 732.

Those who have purchased junior 6 and installed the patch to make it 6a are not
sure if the settings have to be tinkered with, or if perhaps some abberations in
these tournaments proved serendipitous for junior. Whatever the case may be,
junior 6a, at least in yahoo adv, is not dominating.
