Winning anything by forfeit and especially in this case when the side which lost pretty much had the forfeit forced on them when they wanted to continue is very hollow victory. But I suppose if it had to be done, it had too. To me alternatives should have been found beforehand in case something like this happens. It not to be shows very poor organisation, and leads to all this. Maybe things will be learned for next time. I wonder what would have happened if Kasparov was in the position of getting cut off and was in a winning position. I am quite sure that more would have been done.
