I think you can do even better. No need for a floppy disk actually.

Just create a copy of the "DOS command" shortcut to your desktop. Then edit its
properties.

In the "Program" page of the properties, click on "Advanced parameters".

In the "Advanced parameters" page, click on MS-DOS mode. Then on "Specify a new
configuration". You can then type whatever you want in the "CONFIG.SYS" and
"AUTOEXEC.BAT" edit boxes.

Try first to type what you have typed in the CONFIG and AUTOEXEC of your boot
floppy.

Then validate the properties.

Now when you double-click the shortcut, Windows will reboot and start a pure
MS-DOS session. This session will have access to all the memory, as Windows will
actually NOT be loaded in memory.

So without any boot floppy, you can start a pure MS-DOS session with exactly the
parameters you want.

I want to stress out that this is not a DOS "box". This is a pure MS-DOS
session, Windows is not in memory anymore.

To exit the MS-DOS session and restart Windows, type "exit [Enter]". If you
reboot by Ctrl-Alt-Del or by turning off your computer, the MS-DOS session is
started again, until you decide to leave it by typing "exit".

If you edit your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files during the MS-DOS session,
your new parameters will be copied automatically to the Windows shortcut when
you restart Windows. So you can safely edit the files under MS-DOS, you will not
lose the changes. This is great.

Once your shortcut works well, you can copy it on a floppy to install it on
another computer. Can be useful if you have 2 computers and want to starts
MChess from any of them. The shortcut has all the parameters in it (including
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT).

This is much more convenient (and faster) than a boot floppy disk.
