Khalifman might be talked into (say) a ten game match at G/60 against a computer foe. I'm guessing the computer would win. Even if it loses the match and wins one or more games, it can still be played up. (If it loses 10-0, you just don't put anything on the box about it). ;-) It's a win for Khalifman, because he should be paid handsomely for it, and he will get some money out of his current position. Also, since it is at fast time controls, his fellow GM's will know he was just milking the post for some money. It's a win for the chess program authors, because 99% of the people on earth -- even the ones who buy chess programs -- don't know much about the good players, about time control, or any of that. But "beat the world champion" will get their attention. Suppose the computer defeats the World Champion for the whole event. Put this on the box: Our program [Insert program name here] beat the FIDE World Champion in a ten game match with a whole hour alloted to each game!! Suppose the World Champion defeats the computer but loses one or more games. Put this on the box: Our program [Insert program name here] defeated the FIDE World Champion in [n games] during a ten game match with a whole hour alloted to each game!! The kiddies will go gaga. "Mom! Mom! I want the one that beat the world champion!"
