Reading lots of stories about how many good professional programs are coached by GMs and such like, I was wondering if there'e anyone out there who wouldn't mind playtesting my program, ColChess, and telling me what needs to be done to improve it. Unfortunately I'm a terrible chess player so it beats me every time, but I'm sure an IM wouldn't have many problems beating it and I'd be most iterested to know how to improve the analysis function, and especially the endgame play. I also need to know if any bad lines have somehow made their way into the opening book. Just thought it would be worth asking. Source code and .exe (currently v5.6 isn't compiled for windows but there's a v5.5 exe there. I'll compile 5.6 soon) are on my website; http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~cmf/chess/index.html It's playing quite well now after a few modifications, and should get an ELO of maybe 2000-2100 on a decent machine. Because I've opted for the brute force (complicated evaluation, shallow depth, no guesswork or null moves) method, the static analysis function is much more important than if I'd opted for a really deep, tactical game. Cheers, Colin
