In the last ply of a search tree why not search only captures? Any non-capturing move will not change the eval significantly anyway. I mean I don't think minor positional considerations that could occur fives moves from now are very important, if there is an actual positional problem in the line the computer chooses, it would just see it on the next turn and steer away from the problem line. Would this not speed up the search somewhat? Jeff
