I have used Java a number of times to make user interfaces.

It is possible to throw something together in Java very quickly. But it won't
look very good. Sometimes it won't even work very well, and it's impossible to
make it work better.

I think if you want to do a professional job, you'll want to write everything
yourself with C/C++.
