You should not mix up Java 1.1 and Java 2. The Java 2 library has all you want to do, but it is rather complex. Get JBuilder 3 Foundation from the internet and you see what is possible! The programming interface is as good as that of VB! Nevertheless, a severe drawback is the speed. It is sometimes slower than VC++, but there are also native compilers available! Nevertheless, I think there are some chess ActiveX controls for VB or VC++ available for free! I have never tried to use these controls, but it should be really easy to build an interface with VB (much easier as with VC++).
