Somebody was right.  VB is the easiest way to go until you'll need to go deep
beneath the surface.  Visual C++ also has an OK interface maker, but not as good
or simple as VB.  If you already know some MFC, it shouldn't be very hard
though.  If you need to find out how to do anything, MS Knowledge Base,
deja.com, and codeguru.com are all great.

I wouldn't go with Java unless you need your program to run in a browser.
