Ok, i just visited Borlands newsgroup 'borland.public.cppbuilder.commandlinetools' and the missing debugger seems to be one of the most often heard complaints about this free compiler. No, I wouldn't develop a huge application or a chess program without a debugger, you are right on this. Nevertheless I would maybe use the Borland compiler to build the release version of my programs. As far as I know, there are a lot of chess programmers out there, who don't own a full-blown commercial IDE including a debugger but instead use gcc and gdb in some form. The Borland compiler *may* be a good alternative for them to build faster executables. I'm not sure about this of course, since I didn't test the compiler yet. Nevertheless I think this free release is remarkable. Would be nice to see Microsoft do the same ;-) (maybe including a debugger?) Greetings, Heiko. P.S.: Just found this one: Here's a free IDE for the Borland compiler (but still without a debugger): http://www.objectcentral.com/vide.htm
