Subject: Chess Fonts

Hi All

To program a chess GUI is it better to use bitmaps like Winboard or True-type
fonts?. If the answer is TTF then
a) the ttf available on the net seem to all use a "hatched" look for black
squares. is it possible to do a more "solid" square?
b) is there someplace that describes how to render these fonts?

I am also interested in color suggestions for the GUI. I quite like the diagrams
I saw on the rebel site (blue/white or brown/creamy squares) Does anyone have
good color schemes? I would prefer the RGB values rather than the names.

Thank you

Sanjiv.

P.S. I just discovered the CCCDB application on the yellow bishop site. It is
great !. So now I will scan the archives before posting a question. I have
downloaded 1/2 the archive already..
