In general, I would assume a dual-cpu program to run (on average) no more than 1.75X faster than it would with one processor. If you factor that in, and then compare to the 1ghz Athlon, you might find the Athlon a bit faster overall. But not 2x or even 1.5X. Which means the difference would be fairly minimal, IMHO... To answer this, I would want to test with a real program on real hardware. SMP adds a whole new meaning to 'non-deterministic behavior'.
