As for the controversy, there are strong proponents on both sides of the issue. Here's my take: The technology is inferior and (in this day and age) absurd. PC's all come with net cards now. The Winboard interface is better. I think that something yet superior could be provided, but no one has done so yet. At any rate, Auto232 did fill a great need at one time (how to test programs automatically without needing human intervention). Without something like that, SSDF would be too exhausting to provide the giant lists of games. But we should be past Auto232 by now.
