I decided on the name Fathom about 3 months ago or so, and have been working to get the program up to speed enough so that I could put in on a server. The reason I assumed that somebody stole the name is that it was extremely coincidental that a few months after I picked that name, it showed up as a program on a chess server. Since the vast majority of the computer chess program authors read this forum, it seemed suspicious that an author would not be on this forum and would also pick the exact same name within the same timeframe. It is much easier to imagine that there are people who read this forum who would stoop to putting an old noname program on the servers just to grab the name from someone else. However, since you have worked on your program longer and beat me to the chess servers, I guess you get to keep the name unless you are willing to give it up. C'est la guerre! KarinsDad :)
