Believe it or not, the 3D board that I find the most acceptable it the one that
comes with the old Cyrus program.  It's easy and fast adjusting the angle of the
board, none of the pieces are ever obscured.  It's better than the 3D boards
provided by Chessbase because the pieces are actually better, and you know
instantly what piece you're looking at, and it doesn't cause any eye strain that
I get from looking at horrendously bad 3D board displays.

But I agree, 2D displays are better.  I prefer real tournament sized Chess
pieces, but actually Chess _is_ played on a very 2 dimensional plane, and that's
basically what a computer's monitor is, so the 3D boards aren't needed, it's
something to sell the programs with, but they don't work very well.
