Chessmaster required DirectX for multiplayer support (TCP/IP, LAN, modem and MPlayer) and required QuickTime for audio and video. Both of these items were optional during installation of CM7000, if I recall correctly. There was also, apart from the three fixed installation types (typical, typical with database, and minimum), a "custom" installation that allowed you to pick and choose which filesets you wanted installed.
