Here's a Compaq press release:

This shows database performance for their biggest AlphaServer GS320, with 32
processors and 128 GB RAM.

If you multiply transactions per minute by dollars per transaction, it seems
that you could get this hefty machine for a mere $8.2M...

Also included is just over 9000 GB of disk storage, so you might have a chance
to try out some 7-man tablebases.  :-)
