I think it was mostly cultural. In most places, including my old country, that
word doesn't make nearly as big a splash as it does here, in US. Coincidentally,
the toilets here are also designed to have much larger standing water pool than
anywhere else I travelled to.

I was just about to comment here, on these two different types, when a sudden
twitch of my pinky reminded me that the local PeeCee Cell would promptly
dispatch their anti-sexism squad to go after me.

My wife would tell them to say "fiddle sticks." And I would tell them, "your mom
would tell you to say fiddle sticks."
