I'm not sure I agree!  You are assuming that the search is always / usually
halted with the same colour to move - this is not the case if there are any form
of extensions.  In addition if you can accuarately account for the 'to-move'
value you will tend to avoid the odd / even ply evaluation oscilations.  These
were far more prevelant five+ years ago.
