The only way to prove if they are wrong is by playing against other programs. If Deeper blue is really clearly better than the top programs on the best hardware they should not be afraid to play a tournament with enough games at tournament time control because the chance that they do not win the tournament is small and getting 90% against the top programs or even only 80% will be considered as a great sucess by a lot of chess players and programmers. This is one reason that I think that if Deeper blue is going to play(I doubt it) then it should first play with the top programs to demonstrate superiority. Another reason is the fact that Deeper blue has an unfair advantage and it is the fact that it is unknown and kramnik cannot learn games of it before playing when he can do it against humans(learning Deep thoughts games is not the same because the change in the program is clearly bigger than the change in the level of humans(Deerper blue is probably more 200 elo better than Deep thought and humans at the high level do not get progress of more than 200 elo without playing a lot of games so having only the small number of games against kasparov is not enough and kramnik needs to see Deeper blue playing in a significant number of games before playing against it.
