You're correct. At the time that I made the post on the Rebel message board, I
had only the engine book ticked. But trying to use a little reasoning, I
thought that using both books would make it stronger, without considering that
the lines in the gui book were not suited to Chess Tiger's style. I guess I'm
partly to blame for CT 14.0's loss to the 2220 on FICS :(

It's 11 PM on Friday and it looks like I'll be up again tonight reseting the
engine settings. Here are the settings that I currently have:

Permanent brain ON
Transposition tables ON
Use endgame databases ON
Ignore 50 move rule OFF (Is this the correct setting?)

Engine CHESS TIGER
Hash table 192 MB
Draw score 0 (I don't know the purpose of this setting. I assume it's
correct.)
Anti human play ON (Would you recommend this if I only play humans?)
Engine priority NORMAL
Style NORMAL

Endgame cache size 16 MB
Depth 4

Use GUI books OFF
Use engine books ON
Opening book CT.TBK

Besides the above questions about the purpose of the draw score and the use of
the anti-human option, my only other source of confusion is the use of the
opening books. Since I apparently don't have a clue, I'll stick with the
mentioned book settings for now. However, can someone please explain to me what
the difference is between a GUI book and an engine book? Why are they given
such names (GUI and engine)? And how would I know what a GUI book is if I just
looked at a directory listing? What would the file extension be? And are there
different types of GUI books? (I've seen the extensions .tbk, .bk and .mvs all
used when referring to books)

Once I understand what a GUI book is, then I'd like to know about the options
used to tweak the usage of a GUI book which aren't available when using the
engine book... things like Variation %, Learning strength %, Move distrubution
and Priority select.

When I fully understand what I'm doing, I'll try my hand at tweaking the books
again. Thanks for any help.
