The other benefit is it takes away thinking on the opponents time just when it's likely to benefit the opponent. I wonder how often Rebel (for example) might have won a game because of this and it goes completely unoticed? But the other side of the coin of course is that you are always taking a chance. In my opinion a good obvious move algorithm should not respond too quickly but still take at least 1/4 the time or even more. - Don
