Paying for publicity is extremely common, I don't see anything wrong with that
per se.  AFAIK ChessBase is not funding the prize fund anyway.  Do you think
they paid BGN a lot to play Kramnik?

The sentence is a bit strong, but hyperbole's pretty common in advertising.
It's fair to say that Fritz has been one of the strongest programs around for a
good long chunk of time, though.  And it has spent a significant amount of time
parked at #1 on the SSDF list, which is at least a somewhat reasonable
justification for the statement.

I was interested to see it play in the Dutch Championships, win or lose.  It
didn't do that badly: van der Doel offset van Wely IMO.
