Right, this site is about computer chess, with all that means. Software,
hardware, tournaments, matches, games, discussions of techniques.

A little off-topic stuff is okay, but you might want to read the moderation
statements by candidates, because this is apt to be a point of distinction.

I think that the primary focus should be on computer chess.

If you want to extend this to general chess discussions, we already have ...

... for those. If there are fewer readers there, that does not mean that stuff
should be imposed here on those who do not choose to read that forum.

The Deep Fritz match is about computer chess.

If people get after each other sometimes, the moderators can't make everyone
like each other. The best they can do is put a stop to the egregious stuff and
try to direct people to settle their disputes via email or telephone or some
other appropriate means of communication between *two* people.

I don't care about a few four-letter words, unless they are in titles. If you
care, perhaps you should ask moderator candidates what they think.

Moderation will always be inconsistent as long as we have three moderators and
they don't take the time to agree on everything they do.

The first time I was a moderator we discussed deletion of individual posts,
because we had to *ask* Steve to delete posts. Now we can delete posts without
having to ask, so moderators are tending to be autonomous about that. We still
have to ask about deleting accounts, so that tends to be more of a group effort.

I think that this has worked alright for us, as long as people understand that
we have three different people, with different things that bother them, and
different breaking points.

Fischer is a bad topic for this group. The threads will quickly get out of
hand, and there are better places to let that happen. I am basing this upon
personal experience, not just a guess.
