When I first encountered my Chess Challenger 7, I had to play for an endgame to win, even on the wimpiest level, and it took me quite a few losses to figure out how to do this successfully. I can understand how a younger kid would have more trouble with faster machines. I would hate to think that the only way to dumb these machines down is to give away pieces though. I have a real problem with that. I think that the best situation would be what I had with that Chess Challenger 7, where I would have to see the pawn fork at least, I wouldn't have to simply recapture a piece that had randomly moved itself to an unprotected square or sacrificed itself for a pawn for no reason. Easier said than done though. bruce
