i think here is a confusion often between CSTAL 1 (DOS)
and CSTAL 2 (WIN).

i get arround 5 requests about CSTAL in a week, and i really do not remember
who wanted what and when and which version.

there was cstal DOS and there was a patch after paris,
with a cstalwhite.exe and cstalblack.exe.

white was better against humans. black better against computers.
also white played better white games. black better black games.

this is CSTAL DOS !!!! so it is version 1.

with version 2 we differenciate between

CD version (2.00) and the patch 2.03.

then we have styles.

styles and opening books.

they work for version 1 and 2.

version 1 can build styles and opening books. and since the versions
are compatible concerning books and styles you can build them
with version 1 (DOS) and use them in version 2 (WIN).

you can exchange all this material with other users.

if somebody has found out a nice style, we all can try it out.

also we can exchange nice games.
