many software packages explicitly allow this, with the "single use" doctrine
in the license agreement that says "you may install this software on multiple
machines that you use, so long as only one copy of the software is in use at
any one time. They generally quote the "library book" analogy at this point"
The idea is that when I am running the software on my laptop, I'm probably not
running it on my office machine. Or if I have an office machine, laptop *and*
computer at home, if I am running it on one, then I am probably not in front of
the other machines using it there too.

>2)allow family members in your household to install it on their pc

only if allowed under (1) above, and so long as I am the primary user of the
software at home. Otherwise I buy a copy for home myself, as I did for
Microsoft office (for my wife) Wordperfect (wife again) and so forth. My
gateway came with a copy of Myst. My daughter liked the game and wanted a copy
for her machine (she lives about 20 miles from me). I bought here a copy at
CompUSA and she is now playing with it on her machine. I still have my copy
for my machine. Myst has two players, on two machines, and they were paid for
*both* copies.

see above. I don't...
